Lago Maggiore

The area around Lago Maggiore sits right at the edge where the Alps flatten into the Lombard plain. From the higher ground above the lake you get views like this — a wide valley floor dotted with small towns, framed by ridgelines that stretch back into the mountains towards Switzerland. Everything is green, dense, and warm in late summer.

Villages

The villages around the lake have a particular character — stone walls, terracotta roof tiles, and bell towers that have been marking time for centuries. The narrow alleys between houses barely fit a car, but that doesn’t stop anyone. Geraniums hang from every balcony. It’s the kind of place where nothing seems to have changed in decades, and that’s exactly the point.
